Once you have picked your topic for your persuasive paper and performed some preliminary research, then you need to compose your thesis. A good thesis has to have credible and valid support. It is a statement (one sentence) that has two-five ideas that encompass the goal of the paper. An example of a good thesis might be-- Earnest Hemingway used his life to write Old Man and the Sea as shown by his references to his wives, his references to his life in Cuba, and his use of friends as characters.
A thesis cannot be strictly emotional, but it is acceptable for you to have a strong opinion about your thesis. Since you want to convince your audience to agree with you, so must rely on more than just your opinion. Consider using support from a variety of sources such as:
Also consider your audience as you write the perfect thesis. Your teacher will be grading this paper, so you need to remember that you are gearing your paper to a different age group than your peers. Additionally you want to make sure your topics, as well as your main points, are appropriate for the academic world.
Main Point SequenceOnce you have your two-five main ideas, consider their order. You want to place your weakest argument in the middle of the stronger ideas. You always want to start your paper strong and to finish your paper strong. You want to pull in your reader and to leave your reader thinking about what you have written. This will help you to persuade your reader to agree with you.
Each main idea will need the strongest and most credible support that you can find. If you can not find any academic quotes, statistics, stories, or interviews to support your arguments, you will need to come up with a different point. There are times you may have to rewrite the thesis after starting.
Persuasive PaperThe key to a good persuasive paper is a strong and well-supported thesis. Without a strong thesis, your paper will be weak. Always carefully check research to make sure there is support for the thesis. Once you have a strong thesis, writing your persuasive paper should be a piece of cake to write.
