When the teacher assigns a literary essay, you need to decide a few things before you start. Either pick your topic or get your topic from your teacher. You will be analyzing either one piece of literature or several. You may be proving a theory on your topic or you may be comparing several works of writing. Once you have the topic, follow the easy guide below:
Pick a thesis statement that is strong. You can explore literary devices such as character, setting, theme, or point of view. Include three to five main points in the thesis statement.
You will find there are quite a few databases available online that can be used in order for you to find support for your ideas. There are several sites dedicated just to literature. You will be able to see what the experts say about your ideas.
It is okay to come up with your own ideas. It is fun to consider options that no one has discovered or written about before. Just make sure that you can find support for your ideas.
You should consider that many authors have a trademark style or genre. Exploring that style in different works and then comparing them will make for an interesting essay. If the author has always written in one specific genre, see if you can discover how that writer changed the genre.
You can select a genre and compare two different writers within the genre. Discuss how the two writers compare and contrast with each other. Draw conclusions from the evidence you find.
If you have a favorite contemporary writer, you can certainly write about them in your literary paper. Just keep in mind that there may be more support materials for writers who are considered classics.
Song lyrics are poetry. Do not overlook this fact. If your teacher allows you, you could study and write about the lyrics of your favorite singer and songwriter. It is always easier to write about a subject you like. If the singer is new to the music business, remember you may have to dig deeper to find support for your thesis.
Always stay up to date with your essay and follow the teacher instructions. When your teacher assigns a literary essay, use these simple ideas to make the process more fun and easier for you.
